The Activity 6.1 should be carried out in the following way:

Aim:
To know how long you can hold your breath.

Materials Required:
Watch.

Procedure:
Take a deep breath, close your nostrils and mouth tightly (as shown in the figure) and immediately note the time on the watch. Try to hold your breath for as long as possible under the supervision of your teacher. Note the time on the watch when you breathe again. Calculate for how long you were able to hold your breath.

Activity 6.1: Close your nostrils and mouth tightly. How long can you hold your breath?

Observation:

You will start to feel a burning sensation in your lungs after holding your breath for some time. Most of the time a student of your age will be able to hold their breath for less than a minute.
