1. Complete Activity 4.1 (Page 41). Collect some materials like straw, matchsticks, kerosene oil, paper, iron nails, stone pieces, glass etc. Under the supervision of your teacher try to burn each of these materials one by one. If combustion takes place mark the material combustible, otherwise mark it non-combustible (Table 4.1). Can you name some more substances which are combustible? You can add those to Table 4.1.

Answer: The above activity can be carried out as follows:

Aim: To burn the given materials one by one and identify whether they are combustible or non-combustible.

Materials Required:
Straw, matchsticks, kerosene oil, paper, iron nails, stone pieces, glass.

Procedure:

(i) Under the supervision of your teacher try to burn each of the given materials one by one.

(ii) Mark the materials as combustible or non-combustible and complete Table 4.1.

Combustible and Non-combustible: Carefully try burning each of the above substances to see which ones are combustible and which ones are non-combustible.
