Procedure:
(i) Dig a small pit in your garden with a spade.
(ii) Put the vegetable waste and leaves in it.
(iii) Cover the pit with soil and add some water.
(iv) After three days, remove the upper layer of the soil and examine the pit.
Observations: You will observe that the pit feels warm.

Conclusions: The pit feels warm because of heat generated during the decomposition process of the organic matter by micro-organisms.
