• Fill water in a beaker or a glass up to the brim. Gently touch the water surface with one of the prongs of the vibrating tuning fork, as shown in Fig. 11.2.
• Next dip the prongs of the vibrating tuning fork in water, as shown in Fig. 11.3.
• Observe what happens in both the cases.
• Discuss with your friends why this happens.
Answer:
Aim: To touch and dip the tuning fork in the water as shown and conclude based on what you observe.
Materials Required: Tuning fork, water, glass.
Procedure:
(i) Fill the glass with water upto the brim.
(ii) Strike the tuning fork to make it vibrate.
(iii) Hold the vibrating tuning fork horizontally such that one of the prongs touches the water surface.
(iv) Next dip both prongs of the tuning fork in water.

Observations:
- In the first case (A) small splashes can be seen.
- In the second case (B) sideways ripples can be seen.
Conclusions:
The splashes and ripples indicate that the tuning fork is vibrating.
