Solution to Extended Learning – Activities and Projects Question 1 of NCERT Class 8 Science Chapter 7 Reaching the Age of Adolescence

1. Find out from your elder relatives about their awareness of the legal status of early marriage. You yourself may get information on it from your teacher, parents, a doctor or the internet. Write a two-minute speech explaining why early marriage is not good for the couple.

Answer:

After talking to elder relatives and my teacher I believe that although early marriage is practised in certain parts of our society, it is not good for the couple because of the following reasons:

Firstly, early marriage prevents the girl from getting a proper education. Without adequate education, the girl cannot pursue a good career. Responsibilities at home prevent her from attending school and higher education. This leads to economic instability and young couples find it difficult to provide for their families.

Secondly, early pregnancy can be dangerous for the girl. Since young bodies are not fully developed, early pregnancy can give rise to complications.

Thirdly, the mental health of health of the couple can be affected because they are not ready to take on the responsibilities of running a family at this age. This can lead to mental breakdown and depression.

Moreover, lack of emotional maturity in young couples leads to misunderstandings. They find it difficult to communicate and deal with problems effectively. This might even lead to separation in extreme cases.

In conclusion, we should educate our society about the negative consequences of early marriage, so that every individual can lead a fulfilling and empowered life.
