Looking for a free management course in a top-notch university in Germany with excellent employment prospects? Look no further!
Hey there folks! In this post I will talk about the Master in Management (MiM) in TU Munich (TUM). This course is an excellent alternative to MBA programs which typically cost a lot of money! The only catch is that it is for people with an engineering/natural science background. TUM being a public university, there is no tuition fees except for the Basic Student Union Fee and the Basic Semester Ticket, both of which are minimal. There are even scholarships that can help with living expenses which are disbursed based on merit and financial need of the student. What’s more, the program is offered completely in English and if you want to learn German (which I highly recommend that you do), you can enrol in German language courses, again for free, at TUM!
For admission to the program you need a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or natural sciences. During the Stage 1 of screening they take into account your previous academic background, GPA during your Bachelor’s degree and GMAT. The latter is optional. Work experience is not required. If your previous academic background is deemed suitable you will be granted 50 points. You can be awarded up to 15 points depending on your GPA during your Bachelor’s degree which will be converted to the German grading system. Alternatively, an official university document indicating your rank during your Bachelor’s degree may also be accepted instead of your GPA if you score more points that way. Depending on your rank, again a maximum of 15 points may be awarded. The GMAT is not mandatory but if you score above 600, 10 extra points will be awarded. If you score above 62 points or more altogether, you will be directly admitted. If you score 49 or less, you will be rejected. If you score between 50 and 61 points, you will qualify for Stage 2 of the screening process which will take into account your score from stage 1 (excluding GMAT) and the points which you will score on an essay that you will be required to write. The maximum points you can score on the essay is 40. Altogether, if u score 80 points or more, you will accepted.
You also have to demonstrate proficiency in English at the time of application as well in one of the following ways: the language of instruction during your Bachelor’s was English; by proving that at least 12 ECTS credits or the equivalent of that during your Bachelor’s was taught in English; by scoring a minimum of 88 points on the TOEFL; by scoring a minimum of 6.5 points on the IELTS; by providing a CAE certificate or by scoring a minimum of 600 on the GMAT. Knowledge of German is not mandatory at the time of application but you will be required to display proficiency in German at least up to A1 level standards within the first couple of semesters.
Your academic record during your Bachelor’s will be the most important part of your application. So, maintaining a good academic record during your Bachelor’s is of utmost importance. Also, I would recommend you start preparing for the GMAT well in advance and get a high score on it. Note: Only GMAT is accepted, not GRE.
The MiM program bridges the gap between technology and management and prepares students for roles that require knowledge of both. You can opt to study in either the Munich or the Heilbronn campus. In both locations, you follow a fixed curriculum in the first couple of semesters which will teach you the basics. After that you will specialize in an area of your interest. There are two electives offered exclusively in the Heilbronn campus: Management of Family Business and Management of Digital Transformation. While taking these electives, you can make connections with many family-owned enterprises in the region and get hands on training as well. There is also an elective known as the Advanced International Experience elective offered in both locations, which allows you to study abroad in a partner university for at least 60 days. This gives you a chance to further hone your skills and build your network. Munich is a hub for tech and other enterprises and opportunities are aplenty. You can even choose a TUM School of Management professor as your supervisor but do your Master’s thesis in an external institution. The professor will be the one grading your thesis. Good luck!
