List these human activities. How can these be checked? Discuss in your class and write a brief report in your notebook.

Answer:

The factors disturbing the biodiversity of my area are all due to human-made. These human activities are listed below:

(i) Construction of roads and flyovers.

(ii) Illegal encroachment due to establishment of new settlements and construction of highrises.

(iii) Illegal fishing activities in the nearby lake.

(iv) Pollution from vehicular emissions.

(v) Dumping of wastes in the lake during festival ‘Chhath’.

These can be checked in the following ways:

(i) Enforcing thorough assessment of construction projects to assess their impact on the environment and limit construction in ecologically sensitive areas.

(ii) Increasing patrolling around the lake to detect and prevent illegal fishing activities. Raising awareness and engaging local communities in lake conservation efforts.

(iii) Mitigating pollution by limiting the number of vehicles in the locality and also near the lake.

(iv) Educating the community about the environmental impact of waste dumping in the lake during festivals and enforcing strict penalties for illegal waste dumping. Convincing the local municipality to promote safe waste disposal during festivals.

“List the factors disturbing the biodiversity of your area. Some of these factors and human activities may disturb the biodiversity unknowingly. List these human activities. How can these be checked? Discuss in your class and write a brief report in your notebook.” – Solved.
