3. Make a rainbow. Try to make your own rainbow. You can try this project in the morning or in the evening. Stand with your back towards the Sun. Take a hosepipe or a water pipe used in the garden. Make a fine spray in front of you. You can see different colours of rainbow in the spray.

Answer: The activity can be carried out as follows:

Aim: To make the rainbow using the spray of water and make necessary conclusions based on this phenomenon.

Materials Required: Hosepipe or a water pipe, water.

Procedure:

(i) Stand in an open area with your back towards the Sun.

(ii) Using a hosepipe or a water pipe produce a fine spray of water in front of you. Then make a note of what you observe.

Observations: All the different colours of the rainbow can be seen in the spray.

Conclusions: This phenomenon tell us that the fine water droplets of the spray act as tiny prisms and split the beams of white sunlight into the seven colours: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Thus, we can conclude that white light is comprised of these seven colours.
