1. Complete Activity 10.1 (Page 111). Make the electric circuit shown in Fig. 10.7. Copy this electric circuit in your notebook.

Make also a circuit diagram of this circuit using symbols for the various electric components. Is your diagram similar to the one shown in Fig. 10.8. Fig. 10.9 shows another circuit diagram. Is it identical to the circuit diagram shown in Fig. 10.8? Would the bulb glow in this electric circuit?
Answer: Activity 10.1 can be carried out as follows:
Aim: To make a circuit diagram of the given circuit and compare it with the one in Fig. 10.8. Compare the circuit diagram in Fig. 10.9 with Fig. 10.8 and draw necessary conclusions.
Materials Required: You are required to remember the symbols for the various electrical components.
Procedure:
(i) Copy the given electric circuit in your notebook.
(ii) Make a circuit diagram for the circuit using the symbols for the various electrical components.
(iii) Compare your circuit diagram with the one in Fig. 10.8.
(iv) Compare the circuit diagram in Fig. 10.9 with the one in Fig. 10.8 and make the necessary conclusions.
Observations and Conclusions: The circuit diagram is shown below. It is indeed the same as the one in Fig. 10.8.

Another circuit diagram in Fig. 10.9 is shown below:

Comparing the above circuit diagram with the one in Fig. 10.8 we conclude that the switch is open unlike in Fig. 10.8 where the switch is closed. Also, the connections at the terminals of the cell are reversed and hence current will flow in the opposite direction. We also conclude that bulb will not glow because the switch is in the ‘OFF’ position.
