Polymer science is a vast and ever growing field with plenty of opportunities and this degree will open many doors for you if you indeed decide to pursue it. There a lot of polymer and related industries in Berlin, so networking and job opportunities are aplenty! You can even pursue alternate careers in other fields, so there is no need to restrict yourself. What’s more, the course in offered entirely in English, which is a huge plus for international students! If you perform well you can even continue on in a PhD program, so keep that in mind.
The first year requires you to take compulsory courses in each of the two semesters. There are 5 courses that you have to take in each semester amounting to a total of 30 credits each semester, or 60 credits total in the first year.
The second year is flexible in the sense that you can choose 3 courses from those offered for a total of 15 credits. In addition to that you have to complete a research project for a total of 15 credits. For obvious reasons it is recommended that you take courses and do the research project in an area in which you intend to do your master’s thesis. The master’s thesis is worth 30 credits. You can do both the research project and a master’s thesis in an external institution. In fact, you are even allowed to study abroad. In short, there are plenty of opportunities, so make good use of them! Good luck!
