Congruence of Triangles

Practical Geometry

Chapter 1 Integers

You will learn about Integers in more detail in Class 7 than you did in Class 6. You must understand and remember the properties of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of integers and be able to solve problems using them. The best way to understand all the different properties and how to solve problems using them is to understand the concepts in the textbook and then practise many different kinds of problems.

Chapter 1 Integers

Chapter 2 Fractions and Decimals

In this chapter you will learn about multiplication and division of fractions and decimals.

The following topics are covered under multiplication of fractions: multiplication of a fraction by a whole number and multiplication of a fraction by a fraction. The following topics are covered under division of fractions: division of a whole number by a fraction, division of a fraction by a whole number and division of fraction by another fraction.

The following topics are covered under decimals: multiplying decimals number together, multiplying decimal number by a whole number, multiplying decimal numbers by 10, 100 and 1000, division of decimals numbers by 10, 100 and 1000, division of a decimal number by a whole number and division of decimal number by another decimal number.

Chapter 2 Fractions and Decimals

Chapter 3 Data Handling

In the chapter on Data Handling you will learn about concepts like arithmetic mean, range, median, mode. You will also continue your study on bar graphs and will be required to solve problems using them. Extensive practice is essential to master this chapter.

Chapter 3 Data Handling

Chapter 4 Simple Equations

In this chapter you will learn how to set up equations and solve them. You will learn techniques such as transposing, multiplying and dividing both sides by the same number etc. You will also learn to apply simple equations to describe practical situations. The best way to master this chapter is to practise many different types of problems.

Chapter 4 Simple Equations

Chapter 5 Lines and Angles

This chapter covers related angles such as complementary and supplementary angles, pairs of intersecting lines, transversal, angles made by a transversal and transversals of parallel lines. Solving geometry problems of this type will require a good eye, which comes with practice.

Chapter 5 Lines and Angles

Chapter 6 The Triangle and Its Properties

In Chapter 6, you will learn many interesting concepts related to triangles such as median, altitude, relation between exterior angle and interior opposite angles, angle sum property, special triangles such as equilateral and isosceles triangles, sum of the lengths of two sides of a triangle is greater than the third side, right-angled triangles and Pythagoras property. You will be required to solve problems that involve a combination of these concepts and the best way to do that is to practice problems of many different kinds. You can start with the solutions to the textbook exercises and use our extra problems set for additional practice.

Chapter 6 The Triangle and Its Properties

Chapter 7 Comparing Quantities

The chapter starts by introducing the concept of percentages, explaining that they represent parts per hundred. It covers how to convert fractions and decimals to percentages and vice versa. It shows you how to convert percentages to ‘How Many’ and ratios to percents. It also shows you how to compute simple interest using percentages and discusses how percentages are used in buying and selling scenarios. Access the complete solutions below:

Chapter 7 Comparing Quantities

Chapter 8 Rational Numbers

Starting with the definition of rational numbers, this chapter delves into positive and negative rational numbers, representation of rational numbers on a number line, expression of rational numbers in standard form, comparison of rational numbers, finding rational numbers between two rational numbers and ends with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of rational numbers.

Chapter 8 Rational Numbers

Chapter 9 Perimeter and Area

In this chapter you will learn to calculate the perimeters and areas of parallelograms, triangles and circles. You will be required to memorise the formulae for each and solve problems using them.

Chapter 9 Perimeter and Area

Chapter 10 Algebraic Expressions

This chapter talks about how algebraic expressions are formed, the various parts of an algebraic expression, like and unlike terms, monomials, binomials, trinomials and polynomials and finding the value of an expression. A very important part of the chapter is the method of factorisation to decide whether terms are like or unlike, so study this part well.

Chapter 10 Algebraic Expressions

Chapter 11 Exponents and Powers

After introducing the concept of exponents, this chapter explains the laws of exponents in detail with examples. It is vital that you learn to solve problems using laws of exponents. Some problems will require multiple laws to solve and you will need to practise such problems to answer similar problems in your exams. This chapter also talks about the decimal number system and expressing large numbers in standard form. Good luck!

Chapter 11 Exponents and Powers

Chapter 12 Symmetry

In this chapter you will be require to classify symmetry of shapes using lines of symmetry and rotational symmetry. The key to mastering this chapter is to practise analyzing many different kinds of shapes and determine how many lines of symmetry they have and the order of rotational symmetry for each shape. Our Chapter 12 solutions and extra problem set are an excellent place to start practising.

Chapter 12 Symmetry

Chapter 13 Visualising Solid Shapes

The chapter introduces plane figures and solid shapes, highlighting the difference between 2D and 3D shapes. It covers various solid shapes like cubes, cuboids, spheres, etc., explaining their features like vertices, edges, and faces. The chapter discusses nets as 2D representations and techniques for visualizing 3D shapes on paper through oblique and isometric sketches. It also explores different ways of viewing sections of a solid, such as slicing and shadow play. Overall, it emphasizes the importance of visualizing solid shapes for understanding geometry. Again, the best way to master this chapter is through intensive practice by drawing. The more you draw and practice, the more you will get comfortable with the topics.
