Chapter 1 Rational Numbers

In class 8, you will continue your study on rational numbers. You will learn about the properties of rational numbers such as closure, commutativity, associativity, the role of 0, the role of 1, distributivity of multiplication over addition for rational numbers etc. You will be required to solve problems using these properties, so practise hard.

Chapter 2 Linear Equations in One Variable

You will learn new techniques for solving equations such as solving equations with variable on both sides (LHS and RHS), reducing equations to simpler form etc. This chapter is simple enough to master, providing you practise enough problems.

Chapter 3 Understanding Quadrilaterals

This chapter starts with a discussion on concepts related to polygons. For those of you studying polygons for the first time, we advise that you draw out the figures yourselves to boost your understanding. Then the chapter discusses different types of quadrilaterals such as trapezium, kite, parallelogram, rhombus, rectangle, square and their properties. Chapter 4 Data Handling

Like the previous chapter, this chapter on Cube and Cube Roots will have a lot of rules and techniques that you will need to master. Feel free to refer to your Class 7 textbook and revise the basics if you need to, before attempting to master this chapter.

Chapter 9 Mensuration

You will learn techniques for finding area of complex polygons. Moving on to three-dimensional shapes, it covers surface area and volume for solids such as cubes, cuboids, and cylinders. Formulas and examples are provided for calculating area and volume, along with practical comparisons and real-world applications to reinforce understanding.

Chapter 10 Exponents and Powers

Within the chapter titled “Exponents and Powers,” students delve into various concepts, encompassing negative exponents, exponent laws, the application of exponents in standard notation, and the comparison between vast and minuscule numbers. Solving problems using the laws of exponents can be confusing, so it is essential that you get lots of practice.

Chapter 11 Direct and Inverse Proportions

The first half of the chapter deals with direct proportion and the second half of the chapter deals with inverse proportion. You will need to understand the difference between direct and inverse proportions. You will need to recognise which applies to a certain situation to be able to solve problems. This will come with sufficient practice.

Chapter 12 Factorization

In this chapter, we explore factorization and division of algebraic expressions, vital concepts in mathematics. We revisit prime factors for natural numbers and extend this to algebraic expressions, breaking them down into irreducible factors. Various factorization methods, including common factors and regrouping terms, are discussed. Factorisation using identities is another important part of this chapter. Additionally, division of algebraic expressions, from monomials to polynomials, is examined through examples and systematic methods, highlighting the significance of understanding factors in mathematical operations.

Chapter 13 Introduction to Graphs

This chapter shows you how to draw line graphs on graph paper and explains the relation between the dependant variable and independent variable. You will be given data and be required to draw line graphs based on the data. You will also be required to draw conclusions based on the graphs. This chapter can be quite fun once you get the hand of it, so let’s start practising early!
