1. Play with a mirror. Write your name with a sketch pen on a thin sheet of paper, polythene or glass. Read your name on the sheet while standing in front of a plane mirror. Now look at your image in the mirror.
Answer: The activity can be carried out as follows:
Aim: To observe the image of yourself and your written name in the mirror and make the necessary conclusions.
Materials Required: Sketch pen, thin sheet of paper, polythene or glass, plane mirror.
Procedure:
(i) Write your name using the sketch pen on the thin sheet of paper, polythene or glass.
(ii) Stand in front of the mirror and hold up the sheet of paper with the written name in front of you as if you are reading your name by looking at it.
(iii) Now observe your image in the mirror and make the necessary conclusions.
Observations: You will find that the image of your written name in the mirror is the exact same as you wrote it.

Conclusions: The name as it appears on the opposite side of the paper which faces the mirror is shown below:

The above letters were laterally inverted by the mirror to reform the original name:

So, we conclude that images formed by a plane mirror are laterally inverted but they are erect, of the same size as the object and the image distance = object distance.
