2. Prepare red cabbage juice by boiling a piece of red cabbage in water. Use it as an indicator and test the acidic and basic solutions with it. Present your observations in the form of a table.

Answer: The experiment is described below:

Aim: To use red cabbage juice as an indicator to identify acids and bases.

Materials Required: Red cabbage, water, several commonly used solutions.

Procedure:

(i) Prepare red cabbage juice by boiling a piece of red cabbage in water.

(ii) Gather several commonly used solutions.

(iii) Take a few drops of each solution and add them to a little bit of the indicator.

Colour change on addition of red cabbage juice to acid and base.
Red Cabbage Indicator: Red cabbage solution turns red in acid and green in base and can be used as an indicator.

Observation:

The red cabbage juice indicator will change colour to reddish-pink on contact with an acid and it will change colour to green on contact with a base. Find the results below for certain commonly used acids and bases.
