1. Pull out a gram or bean plant from the field. Observe its roots. You will find round structures called root nodules on the roots. Draw a diagram of the root and show the root nodules.

The above activity can be carried out as follows:

Aim: To observe the roots of soyabean plant from the field, draw a diagram of the root and make the necessary conclusions.

Materials Required: Soyabean plant.

Procedure:

(i) Pull out a gram or bean plant from the field and observe its roots.

(ii) Draw a diagram of the root and show the root nodules.

Observations: You will observe round structures on the roots of the soyabean plant called root nodules.

Root Nodules: The round structures you see above are nitrogen nodules on root of soyabean plant.

Conclusions: Rhizobium is present inside the root nodules and convert atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia which can be used by the plant.
