Materials required: Incense stick, matchstick.
Procedure:
(i) Place an unlit incense stick in a corner of your class and observe how close you have to stand to get its smell.
(ii) Now using the matchstick, light the incense stick and similarly observe at what distance you can get its smell.
Observations:
- In the unlit state you have to go really close to smell the incense stick.
- When it is lit, you can get the smell sitting at a distance.

Conclusions:
- With increase in temperature the kinetic energy of the particles increases and they travel further. Therefore, we can smell the lit incense stick from a distance.
- In the unlit state, the incense stick particles do not have enough kinetic energy to travel long distances, therefore we cannot smell it from further away.
