2. Complete Activity 1.2 (Page 6). Take moong or gram seeds and germinate them. Select three equal sized seedlings. Take three empty glasses or similar vessels. Mark them A, B and C. To glass A add little amount of soil mixed with a little cow dung manure. In glass B put the same amount of soil mixed with a little urea. Take the same amount of soil in glass C without adding anything [Fig. 1.3(a)]. Now pour the same amount of water in each glass and plant the seedlings in them. Keep them in a safe place and water them daily. After 7 to 10 days observe their growth.
Answer:
The above activity can be carried out as follows:
Aim: To observe which of the plants grows the most and conclude based on the observations.
Materials Required: Three equal sized moong seeds, three empty glasses, soil, cow dung manure, urea.
Procedure:
(i) Germinate the three moong seeds by keeping them in a moist and humid place.
(ii) Take the three empty glasses and mark them A, B and C.
(iii) To glass A, add little amount of soil mixed with a little cow dung manure.
(iv)In glass B put the same amount of soil mixed with a little urea.
(v) Add the same amount of soil to glass C without adding anything.
(vi) Now pour the same amount of water in each glass and plant one seedling in each. Keep them in a safe place and water them daily. After 7-10 days observe which plant grows the fastest.
Observations: You will observe that the plant in glass B grows the fastest, followed by the plant in glass B and then the plant in glass C.

Conclusions:
We conclude that:
- Fertilisers like urea are richer in nutrients than cow dung manure, so the plant in glass B grows the fastest.
- Cow dung manure also contains nutrients, so the plant in glass A grows faster than the plant in glass C.
