- Take pieces of iron, zinc, lead and copper.
- Place any one metal on a block of iron and strike it four or five times with a hammer. What do you observe?

Materials Required: Iron, zinc, lead, copper, block of iron, hammer.
Procedure:
(i) Place the piece of iron on the block of iron and hammer it four or five times, note the observations.
(ii) Repeat the activity with zinc, lead, copper and note the observations each time.
Observations:
The metals flatten on hammering.

Conclusions: The property which enables metals to be beaten into thin sheets is called malleability.
