Sir,

I am writing to express concern about the upcoming proposal to clear a portion of the forest in our area to make space for the construction of a housing complex. Forests play a crucial role in our environment and hence, as a concerned citizen, I request to consider any alternatives to this proposal.

Our forests maintain the oxygen – carbon dioxide balance in the atmosphere and are called ‘green lungs’. They work to purify air and water which helps us survive and stay healthy. Forests prevent flooding and soil erosion and preserve the natural habitat of plants and animals. Hence deforestation in our area would lead to ecological disaster and harm the local environment. I strongly request you on behalf of the community to preserve the local forest and explore alternative options for building the complex. There are several vacant and unused plots of land which would be ideal for this construction project. You can even consider repurposing an unused existing building in a suitable location into the new housing complex.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I have written to your department before on behalf of the community and have found it to be very responsive to local environmental issues. I am confident that the department will make a decision keeping the best interests of our community and the long-term health of our environment.
