2. Complete Activity 10.2 (Page 114).

• Think of some situations from your daily life involving work.

• Discuss with your friends whether work is being done in each situation.

• Try to reason out your response.

• List them.

• If work is done, which is the force acting on the object?

• What is the object on which the work is done?

• What happens to the object on which work is done?

Answer:

Activity 1: Bathing with a Mug of water


(i) Work is done. The muscular force of your hand is acting on the object.

(ii) The object on which work is done is the mug of water.

(iii) The mug of water moves upwards by your hand.

Activity 2: Sitting


(i) No work is being done because displacement is zero.

Activity 3: Walking

(i) Work is being done. The ground or surface the person is walking on is doing the work.

(ii) Work is done on the person’s body.

(iii) The person gets propelled forward.

Activity 4: Chewing Food

(i) No work is being done on the food because displacement is zero.
