4. Visit a doctor. Find out the medicines he prescribes to treat acidity. Ask him how acidity can be prevented.
Answer:
The following medicines are prescribed by the doctor:
(i) ENO
(ii) Digene
(iii) Mucaine Gel
(iv) Gelusil
Acidity can be prevented in the following ways:
(i) Eat at regular intervals. An empty stomach results in build-up of digestive acids which could lead to acidity.
(ii) Eat at least 2-3 hours before you sleep at night. If you eat dinner and lie down immediately, the digestive acids in the stomach leak out in the oesophagus causing acid reflux.
(iii) Avoid exercising vigorously right after eating. This might cause the digestive acids to enter the oesophagus from the stomach, which results in acid reflux.
(iv) Avoid fatty foods, spicy foods, fried foods, citrus fruits (contain acids), carbonated drinks and excessive tea and coffee (especially on an empty stomach). These are all acidity-inducing.
(v) Avoid stress as much as possible and try to get enough sleep.
(vi) Also try to avoid bad habits such as excessive smoking and drinking.
