2. Complete Activity 12.2 (Page 145). Visit a forest or a park in your neighbourhood. Observe the trees and try to identify them. You can take the help of some elders or books on trees. List the characteristics of the trees that you observe, such as the height, shape of leaves, crown, flowers, and fruits. Also draw the crowns of some trees.

We identified the following trees during our visit in the nearby forest:

Banyan Tree:

Approximate Height: 60 feet

Shape of leaves: Elliptical

Crown Shape: Wide and dome-shaped

Flowers: Located inside a fig-like structure, yellow in colour.

Fruits: Called figs and are reddish in colour

Apple Tree:

Approximate Height: 25 feet

Shape of leaves: Oval-shaped with a pointed tip

Crown Shape: Rounded and spread out

Flowers: Small and pink or white in colour

Fruits: Fleshy roundish fruit called apples

Redwood Tree:

Approximate Height: 200 feet

Shape of leaves: Needle-like

Crown Shape: Conical or plume shaped

Flowers: Reproduction happens through brown cones

Fruits: Does not produces fruits

Bougainvillea Shrub

Shape of leaves: Ovate

Crown Shape: Irregular or rounded

Flowers: Flowers are small and come in many colours white, pink, purple, red, orange

Shape of leaves: Long, slender and tapering upwards

Shape of leaves: Compound and feathery in shape

Crown Shape: No distinct crown, bushy in appearance

Flowers: Small, white flowers arranged in clusters

Fruits: Small, round fruits called ‘coriander seeds’
