Answers:

(a) What are layers and broilers in a poultry farm?

Layers are chickens which are raised specifically for laying eggs. They lay eggs regularly and are not raised for meat. Broilers are chickens which are raised for meat production.

(b) Do hens lay unfertilised eggs?

Yes, hens lay unfertilised eggs in absence of a rooster.

(c) How can you obtain fertilised and unfertilised eggs?

Fertilised eggs are obtained when the hen mates first with a rooster. Only then does the fertilisation occur and fertilised eggs are produced. On the other hand, the production of unfertilised eggs in hens is a natural reproductive process that occurs in the absence of fertilisation.

(d) Are the eggs that we get in the stores fertilised or unfertilised?

The eggs we get in stores which we consume are typically unfertilised.

(e) Can you consume fertilised eggs?

Yes, fertilised eggs are safe to eat.

(f) Is there any difference in the nutritional value of fertilised and unfertilised eggs?

No, there is no difference in the nutritional value of fertilised and unfertilised eggs. Both contain similar amounts of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals.
